The Goldfields region is Australia's premier gold heritage region and has much to offer the visitor. Spectacular historic cities and picturesque villages are easily accessible from Melbourne and Tullamarine airport. The region entices the visitor with its grand streetscapes, historic architecture, beautiful gardens and natural landscapes, some of Australia’s best regional art galleries, a stunning array of food and wine and a fantastic range of festivals and world-class attractions.
Goldfields Tourism Incorporated is the peak marketing organisation for the Goldfields region. Goldfields Tourism works closely with Tourism Victoria and the tourism units of the five local government areas that make up the region to deliver marketing and industry development activities. The region includes the City of Ballarat, Central Goldfields Shire, Mount Alexander Shire, City of Greater Bendigo and Loddon Shire.
Our primary function is to develop and implement marketing strategies to maximise visitation to the Goldfields.
Throughout each year Goldfields Tourism offers these organisations and regional tourism operators the opportunity to participate in a range of cooperative marketing opportunities. These opportunities vary but usually includes website and other online activity, public relations and specially targeted interstate campaigns.
There is a comprehensive range of information for people looking to visit the region on the Goldfields consumer website www.visitgoldfields.com.au which sits within Tourism Victoria’s visitvictoria.com
Goldfields Tourism has also been instrumental in the redevelopment of the Goldfields Track, a 210km bushwalking and mountain biking, natural bush track that connects Ballarat to Bendigo. The track offers fantastic walking and riding opportunities, and as it passes through Creswick, Daylesford and Castlemaine on its way from Ballarat to Bendigo, consumers are never far away from the full tourism experience. Within 90 minutes from Melbourne:

Most destinations in the region are within a comfortable 90 minute drive from Melbourne, less from Tullamarine Airport. The region is also well serviced by public transport, with VLine operating regular rail services to Ballarat, Castlemaine, Bendigo and Maryborough. Main highways from South Australia and southern New South Wales further assist visitors to access the region.
